How to Spend a Weekend in Wilmington, NC
Wilmington, North Carolina, is a vibrant coastal city known for its rich history, charming riverfront, and beautiful nearby beaches. Located along the Cape Fear River, Wilmington offers a blend of cultural attraction and outdoor activities.
I love visiting Wilmington for a weekend getaway at the beach. Here’s how you should spend a weekend in Wilmington:
Visit Carolina beach
Carolina Beach is known for its relaxed vibe and ocean views. It features soft sandy beaches, calm waves for swimming, sunbathing, fishing, surfing, and kayaking. The Boardwalk offers arcades, shops, and seafood eateries.
Lots to do such as beach rides, brunch, bicycling, and other fun activities. It’s a great place to grab beach house and stay for the weekend and walk to main attractions.
2. Rent a yacht
There’s many places to rent a yacht and explore the waters in Wilmington such as Get My Boat. The price is about $180 per person for 3 people. The price includes 6 beach chairs, Shibumi shade, and coolers iced down for your drinks and food! Yes, its BYOB.
We took a sunset yacht and had an amazing time with wine, music, and enjoying the scenery. We saw nice houses and some islands such Masonboro Island.
3. Eat Seafood.
As a Marylander, I am always skeptical about other cities seafood. Although the seafood in Maryland is unmatched, Wilmington has nice options with fish and seafood.
We visited Bluewater Waterfront Grill and I got lobster roll which was excellent. They have other dishes such as Mussels, Crab Dip, Calamari, and Salmon. This restaurant sits on the water which has nice views of the boats and water.
4. Visit Winery.
Although the winery isn’t in Wilmington, this winery is on the way and popular in North Carolina. On your way to Wilmington visit Duplin Winery.
Duplin Winery is one of the oldest wineries in the southeastern U.S., founded in 1975. Known for high-quality muscadine wines made from native grapes, it offers sweet, semi-sweet, and dry varieties, including popular Scuppernong and Hatteras Red.
Visitors can enjoy tours, tastings, and seasonal events in a welcoming setting.
5. Visit Wrightsville Beach
I personally prefer Wrightsville Beach than Carolina Beach because of its pristine sandy beaches and clear water. The town features a vibrant local community with plenty of dining options, boutique shops, and accommodations ranging from beachfront hotels to vacation rentals. The beach’s natural beauty, combined with its active outdoor lifestyle and welcoming atmosphere, makes it a notable destination along North Carolina’s coast.
Overall, Wilmington Beach is a great destination for a weekend getaway in any season. There’s plenty beaches to visit such as Carolina Beach and Wrightsville Beach, You can visit some wineries and find local seafood to eat. A great getaway for girls relaxation or baecation.
