Visit these Wineries in Dallas

Dallas, Texas, may be better known for its bustling city life and barbecue, but it also offers some noteworthy wineries in and around the area. Discovering wine and new wineries has become my second hobby. I find that learning about the actual wines and vineyards fun.

I even learned etiquette for drinking wine. For example, pick up the glass, point it away and make sure there is no debris in wine. Then, hold the bottom of the glass with two fingers, swirl the glass about 8 times and smell the wine. You should not smell vinegar, wet cardboard and nail polish remover. Try it the next time you have a glass of wine!

While Dallas itself doesn't have many vineyards due to its urban setting, the greater North Texas region provides several options for wine enthusiasts.

Here’s some wineries to visit in Dallas area:

  1. VineCrafters

Located in Rockwell, Texas, VineCrafters Vineyard is a small family owned vineyard and winery. VineCrafters winery has lots of events and specials and a grape-picking and smashing experience. Grape smashing is a fun experience and should be included in all wine-tasting experiences.

I loved this vineyard and wine experience because the wines are made without added sugars or sulfites. The wines are smooth and doesn’t leave you with a “hangover headache.” This winery also includes pizza and wine-rita options.

Located in Valley View, Texas, 5 Fifty-Five is a woman & veteran-owned vineyard and winery. This iconic name is based on angel number 555 that symbolizes a significant and positive turning point in one’s life and a sign of great things to come.

5 Fifty-Five has a great wine-tasting experience with a variety of wines. I loved the variety of white wines. This winery also has a great aesthetic with a Black Ford Pick-up truck in the front for a photo-op. The customer service is also great and personable.

Some events at 5 Fifty-Five includes brunches, chocolate-pairing, and wine-pairing.

3. Edge on the Lake

Located in Valley View, Texas, Edge on the Lake is a popular vineyard and winery that is Father and Son owned. The father and son found the perfect piece of land by the edge of a beautiful lake. It had the ideal soil composition and the right climate for growing grapes. With their combined efforts, they planted vines and carefully tended to them, nurturing the young plants as they grew.

Edge on the Lake wine-tasting experience includes 4 sample of wines—a choice of white, red, or rose. The wine-tasting experience is popular in the summer and reservations required. This winery also includes a light menu of baguettes and cheese and crackers.

Wine Events and Tours

Several wineries around Dallas organize seasonal events like harvest festivals, wine-pairing dinners, and live music that make visiting even more enjoyable. Additionally, guided wine tours from Dallas can take visitors to multiple wineries in the Texas Hill Country or other nearby wine regions.

While Dallas city itself has limited wineries, the surrounding North Texas area compensates with a variety of wineries and tasting rooms. For those interested in Texas wines and winery experiences, a short drive from Dallas opens up plenty of options.
